McDonald’s is selling Egg McMuffins for $1 — but only for one day

Customers can save big at McDonald’s this March as a classic menu item turns the big 5-0.

The fast-food chain is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Egg McMuffin, which debuted in 1975, with a series of specials on breakfast items all month long.

$1 breakfast sandwiches on National Egg McMuffin Day

On Sunday, March 2, McDonald’s will mark National Egg McMuffin Day with a deal available exclusively in the chain’s app. Rewards members can enjoy an Egg McMuffin or Sausage McMuffin with Egg breakfast sandwich for just $1. Yes, even amid skyrocketing egg prices, after Denny’s and Waffle House both announced egg surcharges.

Per McDonald’s, the breakfast menu item was first invented in 1971 when Santa Barbara, California franchisee Herb Peterson came up with the idea of making a handheld eggs Benedict.

“When I watched my father introduce this idea to Ray Kroc, we could not have anticipated it would become the foundation for the renowned McDonald’s breakfast menu,” Peterson’s son and McDonald’s owner/operator David Peterson told the chain. “It’s been remarkable to see people embrace this innovation over the last five decades, and now we get to share that heritage with a new generation of breakfast fans.”

From March 3 — 30, rewards members can enjoy a buy-one, get-one-free deal on the Sausage McMuffin with Egg while placing a McDelivery order in the chain’s app. The offer is valid at participating restaurants.

Bagel sandwiches now available nationwide

The McMuffin will always hold the honor of being the first McDonald’s breakfast sandwich, but there’s always room for more.

Lucky for breakfast lovers, the chain just announced that its bagel sandwiches are now available nationwide.

Previously, the menu item was only available at select locations, but many customers have been hoping McDonald’s would make them more widely available.

McDonald’s expands Krispy Kreme partnership to NYC

In March 2024, McDonald’s announced it would soon start selling fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts at its restaurants nationwide.

As part of the chain’s phased market rollout, participating New York McDonald’s locations are now serving up the doughy delight. The doughnuts are also available in the following markets: Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Louisville.

McDonald’s projects that “more than half” of all its restaurants in the U.S. will have the doughnuts by the end of 2025 followed by nationwide availability by the end of 2026.
