The Met Office has issued weather warnings for high winds on Tuesday and Wednesday, together with a warning for motorists on roads and motorways.
Forecasters have predicted ‘strong and gusty’ winds, and warned of ‘difficult travel conditions’ from the early hours through until Wednesday afternoon.
The first yellow-coded warning covers parts of southern and central Scotland, large areas of Wales and the eastern tip of Northern Ireland.

“West to southwesterly winds will become particularly gusty over and to the east/northeast of hills late Tuesday night and into Wednesday, said the Met Office. “Gusts of 50-60 mph are possible in some areas, and potentially higher in more exposed places.
“This may cause difficult travelling conditions, especially on higher level and north-south routes.”
Forecasters warned of the potential of some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
The Met Office also referenced ‘likely’ delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and motorway bridges, saying delays to road, rail and air transport were ‘possible’.
