Michigan gas prices have dropped 10 cents from a week ago, from $3.68 to $3.58 a gallon for regular unleaded gas, according to AAA, which tracks the fluctuations in gas prices.
The drop to $3.58 a gallon is 5 cents less than this time last month but 25 cents less than this time last year. The cost to fill up a 15-gallon tank is now at an average of $54, about $4 less than Michigan’s high gas prices in August 2023.
According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), last week’s gas demand fell from 9.25 million barrels a day to 8.96 barrels a day, while total domestic gasoline stocks rose from 223.8 to 225.1 million barrels. Additionally, the EIA reports that crude oil inventories decreased by 3.7 million barrels from the previous week, leaving U.S. crude oil inventories about 6% below the five-year average for this time of year.
“Michigan motorists are seeing lower prices at the pump,” said Gary Bubar, a spokesperson of AAA-The Auto Club Group. “Lower gasoline demand amid higher oil costs may lead to flat or slowly rising pump prices.”

In metro Detroit, average gas prices decreased slightly compared to last week, from $3.69 to $3.63 − about 18 cents less than this time last year.
Around the state, the average price-per-gallon varied.
