A woman who has been at the centre of a missing person’s case for 50 years has been found alive and well.
Sheila Fox was 16 years old when she went missing from Coventry city centre in 1972, and the mystery of her disappearance troubled her family and police for decades.
But following a renewed appeal to solve the cold case, Ms Fox has been found safe and well by West Midlands Police officers living in a different part of the country.
Ms Fox, now in her 60s, was rumoured to be in a relationship with an older man at the time of her disappearance and police advised that she may have changed her name.

She had been living with her parents, now deceased, at the time of her disappearance.
The force renewed its appeal for information in December 2024 and said it was possible Ms Fox had simply moved to another part of the country and lived a normal life, but a lack of public records pushed cold case investigators to seek confirmation she had not come to any harm.
A single photo of Ms Fox from around the time of her disappearance was found by officers and published on the force’s website and social media channels.
Within hours of the appeal, members of the public got in touch with information which led the team to her, the force said.
‘Every missing person has a story’
Det Sgt Jenna Shaw said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have found Sheila after more than five decades.
“We searched through every piece of evidence we could find and managed to locate a photo of Sheila.”

She added: “Every missing person has a story, and their families and friends deserve to know what happened to them and, hopefully, be reunited with them.”
Police cold case teams review and reinvestigate long and complex and protracted missing episodes which have remained unsolved.
Advances in forensics and technology have allowed officers to pursue leads which were not available at the time these difficult cases were first reported.
