Jeff Hamilton, Mohegan Sun’s president and general manager since 2019, has been named the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut’s 74th Citizen of the Year.
Hamilton, 42, a Mohegan tribal member, will receive the honor May 8 during a banquet in the casino’s Earth Ballroom.
Chamber staff members surprised Hamilton with the news of his selection during a Mohegan Tribal Council meeting earlier this month.

“It is with great honor that we present Jeff with our 74th Annual Citizen of the Year award,” said Tony Sheridan, the chamber’s president and CEO. “His unwavering commitment to both the success of Mohegan Sun and the betterment of our community reflects the true spirit of what it means to be a leader.”
Hamilton joined Mohegan Sun in 2004. Before assuming his current post, he served as assistant general manager, and previously held leadership positions in the casino’s advertising and human resources departments. As president and general manager, he oversees strategic planning, project development, marketing, fiscal planning, technology and visitor experience while ensuring the casino’s overall success.
“I have been blessed to work alongside so many great people over the last 20 years who have assisted and guided me in my career at Mohegan Sun and in my community work,” Hamilton said in a statement. “I look forward to celebrating with many of those special people in May.”
Hamilton, who has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Seton Hall University and the University of New Haven, respectively, also serves on the board of directors of the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, where he received the Chairman’s Award of Excellence for increasing employee participation by 23% during United Way’s 2019-20 fundraising campaign. His philanthropic efforts include such organizations as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s state Advisory Council and the state Tourism Council.
