A ‘rude’ dad brazenly tried to dump his car on a stranger’s driveway to dodge the school run traffic chaos – only for the angry owner to tell the ‘cheeky git’ to move. Dion Joy says she thought a red Toyota was turning around outside her home in Tameside, Greater Manchester.
But she quickly realised the driver was planning to use her drive as a free parking space. Footage shows the man pull up onto her tarmacked driveway, get out, then spot 33-year-old Dion staring at him through her front window.
He immediately points towards the primary school three doors down. But Dion calmly says ‘no, can you get off my drive please?’.
The dad still attempts to convince the mum-of-three to let him stay by mentioning his daughter but his pleas fail to work as Dion explains her boyfriend is coming home to park there. She firmly repeats her order to leave and tells the man ‘that’s so rude’ before he gets back into the car and reverses off to park further down the street – where there were spaces even free.
Beauty salon owner Dion says she needed to start the school run herself 10 minutes later and the man would have blocked her car from leaving the two-car driveway. She says the 3.18pm incident being at her home stopped her being more confrontational but emphasised the plot ‘isn’t a car park, it’s a driveway’.
Her TikTok video, posted earlier this month, has been viewed 245,000 times with users questioning ‘what was he thinking?’ and some telling Dion she was ‘too polite’.
Dion, from Tameside, Greater Manchester, said: “It was the sound of his car that made me stand up and look because it sounded like it was going to fall apart. I thought he was turning around but then he got out of the car and I thought ‘hell no, you cheeky little get’.
“I was a bit angry but I didn’t want to kick off with somebody outside my house who’s going to be there all the time. I wanted to be careful.
“He tried to explain that he was just going to get his daughter as if it was okay. That was surprising.
“I need to go out on the school run myself so It’s a good job I caught him when I did because he would have blocked me in. I’m glad people agreed with what I said and told me I handled it really well.
“Some people said I could have left him there for a minute but it’s not a car park, it’s a driveway.” Dion says the school’s car park is small so she and her neighbours face regular parking issues from parents struggling to pick up their kids.
The salon owner, whose kids are 10, seven and two years old, says the brazen dad hasn’t tried to park on her drive since. She captioned the video ‘he pulled onto my drive to leave his car so he could do the school run’ and it has more than 1,000 comments.
One wrote: “The worst part is if you hadn’t been at the window to say something he’d have just left it there thinking that’s acceptable.” A second said: “I get moody if someone parks outside my house on the school run and that’s not even my land.”
A third added: “You were too polite.” Dion replied: “I agree I was quite tame.” A fourth said: “What was he thinking?”
