A wildfire that sparked Sunday in the Northern California town of Clearlake has prompted evacuations and is threatening multiple structures, according to authorities.
The Boyles Fire started just after 2 p.m. behind an apartment complex along Dam Road and Boyles Avenue, according to Cal Fire’s Sonoma-Lake-Napa unit, which was assisting the Lake County Fire Protection District.
Authorities said just after 5 p.m. that the fire had burned at least 76 acres and 10% contained.
Cal Fire said in a social media post there was “approximately 30 structures involved.” Video by the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat newspaper showed firefighters attending to several structures that had been destroyed by fire along Irving Avenue and 19th Street after the fire raced past Woodland Community College’s Lake County campus.
Cal Fire said mandatory evacuations were in place in Clearlake zones E148 and E157, areas of homes east of Highway 53 near the southeastern shore of Clear Lake. Several businesses, including a Walmart several yards north of the fire, have also been evacuated.
