Musk ‘discussed removing Starmer from No 10’

Elon Musk reportedly discussed removing Sir Keir Starmer from No 10 before the next general election.

Mr Musk allegedly held conversations recently with his allies about the prospect of trying to remove the Prime Minister.

The key Donald Trump ally has been a vocal critic of Sir Keir and his administration for the majority of his time in Downing Street, most recently over the grooming gangs scandal.

The Financial Times quoted a source briefed on the matter as saying: “His view is that Western civilisation itself is threatened.”

Labour MPs, however, believe that Mr Musk’s attacks on Sir Keir “probably help” the Prime Minister.

One Labour MP told The Telegraph: “I think the PLP [Parliamentary Labour Party] was remarkably united yesterday. Keir performed really well at PMQs and everyone thought the line taken was correct because effectively the whole day was dedicated to that particular debate [on an inquiry into grooming gangs] that suddenly arose.

“If anything, it probably helps Keir Starmer to have Elon Musk to be taking potshots at him. His interventions are a bigger problem for the Tories.”

Multiple other Labour backbenchers are understood to feel the same way, with one praising Starmer’s “very human” response to Mr Musk earlier in the week.

The tech billionaire has taken a keen interest in British politics over recent months, having previously cited his links to the country via his Liverpool-born grandmother, Cora Amelia Robinson.

‘Two-tier Keir’

Last year, Mr Musk accused the Prime Minister of a “two-tier” response to the Southport riots and criticised a court’s decision to jail a man who stirred up racial hatred online.

He has also railed against the Government’s “Stalinist” family farm tax and recently claimed Sir Keir was “complicit in the rape of Britain” over his handling of the grooming gangs scandal.

Although the Prime Minister has not responded directly to remarks made about him by Mr Musk, he appeared to accuse the entrepreneur of “spreading lies”.

Pressure from the tech billionaire in part led to the vote on whether or not to hold a national inquiry into grooming gangs, after the Tories put down an amendment on Wednesday.

But Labour MPs voted to block the attempt to trigger a statutory inquiry, prompting accusations of “cowardice” from the Conservatives.

It comes as Sir Keir is set to meet Emmanuel Macron to discuss Mr Musk’s interventions in European politics, according to a French source.

The French president accused Mr Musk on Monday of “directly intervening” in elections around the world.

Responding to Mr Macron’s accusation, Mr Musk tweeted: “Oh like that time Starmer called [Donald Trump] a racist and said the British Government should do everything to stop him?

“Or when Starmer sent British Labour Party members to campaign in the US against President Trump this year?”

Labour always insisted that its activists had campaigned for Kamala Harris in a personal capacity.
