The National Weather Service in Binghamton issued winter weather advisory Friday morning for the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier counties.
The service warned of moderate to heavy lake effect snow bands across central New York and rapidly-changing conditions. Dry and blowing snow created slickness on roadways and reduced visibility, prompting the service to alert affected communities in seven counties.
Southern Cayuga, Onondaga, Tompkins, Cortland, Chenango, Tioga and Broome counties were issued the weather statement at about 9 a.m. Friday.
