Need help recovering from June 25 storms? Low interest loans available now

People in Monroe and its adjacent counties who suffered damage during the severe storms on June 25 can now apply for low-interest disaster loans from the Indiana district office of U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Who can apply for a disaster loan?

Residents (homeowners and renters) and businesses affected by the June 25 storms can apply for low-interest loans if they live in Monroe, Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Morgan, Owen as well as Vigo, Clay, Jackson, Parke, Sullivan and Vermillion counties. Businesses and private nonprofits can borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster-damaged or destroyed buildings, equipment and other business assets, said Stacey Poynter, SBA Indiana’s district director, in a news release. For home loans, the limit is $500,000 for the repair or replacement of real estate and $100,000 to repair or replace personal property.

Where can people apply for disaster loans?

The SBA is opening two disaster loan outreach centers — at Frank Southern Ice Arena, 2100 S. Henderson St. in Bloomington and at Ivy Tech Community College, 8000 Education Drive, Terre Haute.

Walk-ins will be accepted, but people can schedule an in-person appointment online at https://appointment.sba.gov/.

When will the 2 SBA disaster loan centers be open?

Both centers opened Monday and will be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. for the first day.

In Bloomington, the ice arena will be then be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. The center will close at 4 p.m. Aug. 5.

In Terre Haute, the center at Ivy Tech will be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. The center will close at 4 p.m. Aug. 5.
