Neighbors near Boise told to evacuate after explosives found in home, suspect arrested

Residents in a Kuna neighborhood were encouraged to evacuate after possible explosive devices were found inside a nearby home earlier this week. Law enforcement arrested the man they believe responsible after finding him at a campsite Saturday night.

Kuna Police responded to a “report of suspicious circumstances” on Wednesday evening at a home near East 4th Street and Orchard Avenue in Kuna, an Ada County Sheriff’s Office news release said.

“During the course of their investigation, possible explosive devices and numerous suspicious chemicals were located in the garage,” the release said.

After Boise Police Department’s bomb squad arrived and confirmed the devices were “explosive in nature,” nearby neighbors were “encouraged to evacuate,” the sheriff’s office said.

The FBI, Joint Terrorism Task Force, and Idaho National Guard 101st Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team soon arrived to assist in removing and destroying the potentially dangerous items, according to the release.

After assessing the situation, law enforcement said “preliminary information indicated there was no mass destruction public safety threat.”

Law enforcement arrested 37-year-old Tyson Jardine of Kuna on Saturday night in connection with the incident and booked in the Elmore County Jail on five felony counts of felony unlawful possession of an explosive device. The sheriff’s office said he may face additional charges as they continue the investigation.

At the time of his arrest, family and friends had not seen him for about two weeks, according to the release. The Ada County Sheriff’s Office said they found him at a campsite near the Pine Campground in Elmore County.

Jardine, who was armed with a gun, tried to flee in his vehicle, hitting both a Meridian Police Department and an Ada County armored vehicle, the release said.

Law enforcement plans to move him to Ada County Jail after he is arraigned in court.

The Ada County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
