Netanyahu to comment on Gaza ceasefire once deal completed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will issue a statement on the Gaza ceasefire only once the final details have been finalized, his office has said.

The prime minister’s office said late on Wednesday that the final details of the agreement were still being worked on.

According to the Israeli news website ynet, these are “technical details” such as the precise composition of the list of Palestinian prisoners to be released.

Mediator Qatar said Israel and the Palestinian militant organization Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of more hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

The ceasefire is set to come into effect on Sunday at 12:15 pm (1015 GMT) and will initially last for 42 days.

The agreement still requires approval from the Israeli Security Cabinet and the Israeli government.

According to Israeli media, it is scheduled to meet at 11 am on Thursday to approve the deal. Immediately afterwards, the government is also set to convene. Approval is considered to be relatively sure.
