Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell has appointed Glenn Farner to fill out the remaining term of former Commissioner Bill Freeman on the Metro Nashville Airport Authority.
Freeman stepped down in March after serving eight years on the board overseeing Nashville International Airport and John C. Tune Airport. Farner will fill out the remaining seven years of Freeman’s vacated term.
Farner has held the roles of business manager and secretary-treasurer of the Southeast Laborersâ District Council for 20 years, representing construction workers of the Laborersâ International Union of North America in the southeast region.
âWe are thrilled to welcome Glenn Farner to the MNAA Board,â said MNAA President and CEO Doug Kreulen. “His vast experience and dedication to the workforce in the construction industry will be invaluable as we continue to grow and develop our airport facilities.â
The new commissionerâs career at LIUNA includes dealing with workplace health and safety, labor-management relations, marketing and business development and contract negotiations, according to BNA officials.
His appointment comes as an ongoing legal battle for control over Nashville International Airportâs board continues to move through the Tennessee Court of Appeals. State leaders passed a law last year transferring power to appoint the majority of MNAA members from the mayor to the state legislature. The law was struck down in Davidson County Chancery Court and has been appealed by the state.
As of now, Metro leaders retain authority, and MNAA has hired New Orleans-based firm, Adams And Reese LLP, to represent their interests.
