Jul. 28—One of New Mexico’s largest and most recognizable architecture firms has undergone a rebrand and a name change, one the company says celebrates the foundation and stability it has built over the past six decades.
The firm Dekker Perich Sabatini, known for its work on projects like Presbyterian Hospital’s 11-story tower completed last year, is now simply Dekker, the firm announced this month. Dekker said the rebranding and name change, which includes updates to its website and logo, officially took place in May.
“The name Dekker represents a theme of innovation over more than 65 years. But most of all, it represents a commitment to moving our communities forward: championed daily by Dale Dekker and embodied by every member of the team,” said Emily Allen, Dekker’s chief financial officer and a principal of the firm, in a statement. “Our firm is a collective of creatives, entrepreneurs, change agents, thinkers, dreamers and technical experts. We’re excited to share this new name as we continue creating places and spaces for people.”
Dekker, headquartered in Albuquerque with offices in El Paso and Phoenix, was founded in 1959 as Art Dekker Architects by current principal Dale Dekker’s father. The firm then became Dekker Perich Sabatini in 1998, following a merger with Holmes Sabatini & Associates, Dekker spokeswoman Heather Gray said.
The company, located in Journal Center, has a range of expertise in architecture and planning, with teams dedicated to areas like education, health care, multifamily communities and the workplace, according to Dekker’s website.
The firm has also grown in recent years to include more than two dozen principals and a staff of more than 200, according to a news release. The rebranding and name change doesn’t “reflect a shift in operations or team,” the release said.
In a statement, Dekker CEO Benjamin Gardner, also a principal at the firm, said Dekker continues to “celebrate three pillars of our firm’s history: Dale Dekker, Steve Perich, Bill Sabatini — and everyone on our team over the years.”
“The meaningful work we do together is thanks to each and every one of us,” Gardner said.
