Anthony Gordon has made his Newcastle United feelings clear in a new social media post amid reported transfer interest from Liverpool.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a superb first full season at Newcastle after leaving Everton, the club where he had risen through the ranks. His contributions this season have been far better than when he first arrived at St James’ Park, halfway through the 2022/23 campaign.

Gordon has 10 goals and as many assists in 34 Premier League games as the Magpies look to cement a sixth-place finish. According to the Daily Star, Gordon has caught the attention of Liverpool’s scouting unit due to his ‘consistent excellence on the wing’ as the club draw up a list of potential targets to sign in the summer.

However, the Reds are aware that they would need to launch a hefty offer close to £100million to really test Newcastle’s resolve. The report adds that the Magpies are ‘expected to offload at least one, possibly two players’ in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

However Gordon, who was recently named their player of the season, is a key player for Eddie Howe, and the club will want to keep hold of him. The winger has now revealed that he continues to enjoy his time at Newcastle and playing in front of the St James’ Park crowd.

“What a place to play football,” he wrote on Instagram after their final home game of the season which ended in a draw to Brighton last weekend. “Thank you for all the support, some amazing memories at SJP this year.”

Despite coming through Everton’s academy, Gordon named one of the Reds’ greatest players as his boyhood idol in an exclusive interview with Gary Neville on The Overlap. “Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up,” he said.

“Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player.”
