In terms of contract situations to monitor, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk all could be in line for new deals these next few weeks — or lingering drama if they don’t get them.
The 28-year-old Peppers is entering his eighth NFL season and second with New England. In two seasons with the Patriots he has 127 tackles and two interceptions in 32 games.

Vikings rookie Dallas Turner on late Khyree Jackson: ‘As long as I’m alive, I’ll rep his name’
Before practice today, Vikings rookie LB Dallas Turner kneeled at one of the memorials the team has for Khyree Jackson. Stayed there for about a minute. He’ll attend Jackson’s funeral tomorrow, he said. pic.twitter.com/ZdB0eCSmt3
Vikings rookie linebacker Dallas Turner played two seasons with Khyree Jackson at Alabama before reuniting as part of Minnesota’s 2024 draft class.
“I talk to him all the time … and get the chills every single time I talk to him,” Turner said Thursday. “So, I know he’s watching over me.”
“As long as I’m alive,” Turner added, “I’ll rep his name.”
Jackson, the Vikings’ fourth-round pick out of Oregon, was one of three people killed in an automobile accident in Maryland earlier this month. Also dying in the crash were Isaiah Hazel, who played at Maryland and UNC Charlotte, and Anthony “AJ” Lytton, who played his college ball at Florida State and Penn State.
Vikings players will honor Jackson this season with “KJ” decals worn on their helmets. Additionally, coaches and staff will wear pins matching the design of the decal.
The Vikings announced that they will pay Jackson’s full signing bonus to his family. According to Spotrac, Jackson would have been paid a $827,148 bonus as part of his contract. For the 2024 season, he was set to receive $206,787.

J.K. Dobbins ready for a return
J.K. Dobbins on Achilles status: “This injury, I don’t feel nothing. I actually feel faster.”
Dobbins, 25, has suffered a torn ACL and a torn Achilles tendon since 2021. He had 134 carries for 805 yards and 9 touchdowns in his only full NFL season, which happened to be his first in the league in 2020.
Raiders GM Tom Telesco on Michael Gallup’s retirement: ‘That just kind of came up out of the blue’
“I didn’t see that one coming at all,” Las Vegas Raiders GM Tom Telesco said, via The Athletic’s Tashan Reed. “That just kind of came up out of the blue. When I talked to him, it seemed like he had a pretty clear vision. He’s ready to move on. It’s too bad.”
Gallup, 28, played six seasons in the NFL, all of them with the Dallas Cowboys. He signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Raiders as a free agent this offseason and projected to play in a backup role.
Notes from Cowboys camp: Dak’s curious comments, Jerry Jones oddities and more
1. Dak Prescott had a little moment of public negotiation. Pretty subtle, but that’s Dak.
2. Rookie first rounder Tyler Guyton isn’t a fixture with the first team OL yet. But he will be eventually. Or has to be, so long as he can keep Dak safe. pic.twitter.com/rlZFX6zo3J
3. Trey Lance looks like…well, does it really matter yet? He’s going to get some work in preseason games and that will say far more than anything right now.
5. I can’t remember the last time I was at a camp-opening presser for Dallas and there wasn’t a surreal moment in the Jerry Jones experience. Thursday was no different.
6. Cowboys are going to try like hell to get 2023 first round pick Mazi Smith on track. There’s a ways to go. pic.twitter.com/rtSWV4DmNa
“Whatchya gonna do” when Hulk Hogan shows up to camp?
The Detroit Lions are the training camp to be at these days, with celebrities of all kinds stopping by. Legendary WWE wrestler Hulk Hogan cut a promo with head coach Dan Campbell:
And multi-class boxing champion Claressa Shields also made an appearance:
Interesting moment from Dak Prescott
Speaking to the media after practice, Prescott grinned and stopped, then said:
“I’m gonna say it. I want to be here, but when you look [it] up, all the other great quarterbacks that I watched played for other teams [than their first team]. … That’s not something to fear.”

Ja’Marr Chase not practicing with Bengals for second straight day
Chase, one of the NFL’s best wide receivers, wants a new contract, likely in line with Justin Jefferson’s record-setting deal earlier this summer.
The fourth-year Pro Bowler is set to make $1 million in base salary this season and $4.86 million overall. Bengals team owner Mike Brown said the team will “try hard” to extend Chase earlier this week, though his comments have only cast more cloudiness on the situation.
Definitely something to watch.
Developing story in Cincinnati: Ja’Marr Chase is not practicing as it gets underway on Thursday for a second consecutive day. He is standing on the sidelines as his team stretches in uniform w/ no helmet. He was at practice yesterday but didn’t participate.

Notes from Rams camp: Run game, sixth-round rookie to watch and much more
1. The running game will be better. The interior OL will be better. Two more things that could keep Matthew Stafford around for a while.
2. 6th round wideout Jordan Whittington won’t replicate Puka’s breakout rookie year. But long term development? “Deebo Samuel”-esque tools. pic.twitter.com/jiYmhoFiKk
3. It’s going to be an important year for Stetson Bennett’s young NFL career in terms of showing maturity every day.
4. Fantasy outlook, rookie Blake Corum is going to get some looks, but Kyren Williams is unquestionably the guy at running back. He’ll carry the load if healthy. pic.twitter.com/p7Zfndu1lQ

5. The #Rams win the career earnings race at QB, with Matthew Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo having earned the GDP of a small country (and counting): $476.9 million.
6. The staff is thrilled with free agent signing Kam Curl. A modest addition they think will pay major dividends. pic.twitter.com/HFP3KJg1QT

Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones comments on star players’ contract situations
Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones: Both wideout CeeDee Lamb and edge rusher Micah Parsons believe they’re worthy of being the highest paid non-QB in the NFL.
My thought: So there’s that in terms of salary crunch. Along with Dak Prescott potentially being the highest-paid player in the NFL.
CeeDee Lamb staying sharp — just not at Cowboys camp

CeeDee Lamb on his contract: “it just has to make sense”, according to a source informed.
I’m told he’s 195-196 lbs. bigger faster and more explosive than previous years. I’m told he had a two hour workout and continues to… pic.twitter.com/NFwlXcBFKT
Why are Packers ready to reward Jordan Love after relatively brief period as starting QB?
“We feel very, very confident that the success he had last year was no mistake,” Packers GM Brian Gutekunst told Yahoo Sports on Wednesday during practice. “He’s still got a lot of growth. There’s a lot in front of him, and that’s why we need him out here as soon as we can get him because there’s a lot of important things he needs to go through to get ready for this season.
“But I do think having that history with him gives us a lot of confidence where he’s going.”
It’s tough to trace the degree to which Green Bay’s patience has bred success versus its success fostering a culture of patience.
But Aaron Rodgers sat for three years before he collected four MVP awards and a Super Bowl victory with the Packers. After Love sat for three years, he passed for the seventh-most yards (4,159) and second-most touchdowns (32) last season. No first-year starter fared better last year.
“A lot of quarterbacks get ruined in this league because they play well before they’re ready,” head coach Matt LaFleur said.
So many league eyes on the Packers right now. Whether those teams have QB deals in play or not, there’s a lot of curiosity from other teams in whether Jordan Love becomes the highest-paid player in the league. His short track record potentially makes this a very disruptive deal in the market.
