When does the NFL preseason kick off?
The Chicago Bears and Houston Texans will meet in the 2024 Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. ET in Canton, Ohio. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and ABC.
The preseason ends on Sunday, Aug. 25, and NFL roster cutdown day is Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Vikings lose second-year CB Mekhi Blackmon for season
Minnesota Vikings cornerback Mekhi Blackmon is done for the season after suffering a torn ACL in the first day of training camp practice, NFL Network reports.
A third-round pick out of USC in the 2023 draft, Blackmon played in 15 games as a rookie including three starts. He tallied 41 tackles and eight passes defended and projected for a backup role this season.

Eagles HC Nick Sirianni: Relationship with QB Jalen Hurts is good
Rumors have been flying this offseason about the relationship between Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and starting QB Jalen Hurts, who is known to be very tight-lipped about his feelings. On Tuesday, Sirianni said he doesn’t pay attention to any of those rumors, and only judges their relationship based on their interactions with each other.
“Jalen and I, relationship is good,” Sirianni said. “When you hear a report like that you don’t put much stock into it… I am so excited for him and I to go into our fourth year together. We’ve done some pretty special things. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with him and building on the special things we’ve done.”

Kyle Shanahan offered Bill Belichick a job with 49ers
Bill Belichick coaching the San Francisco 49ers? It could have happened.
Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan told The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami that he called Belichick over the offseason and offered him a job. Not just any job, though. A job doing literally whatever he wanted for the 49ers.
“I did, I threw it out to him,” Shanahan told Kawakami. “…I know he just loves ball in its simplest form, so I threw it all out to him, whatever he wanted to do, [including defensive coordinator]. I was like ‘Would you be interested?’ And he was very nice and appreciative and he politely turned me down.”

Dan Campbell: The Lions are ready
Lions head coach Dan Campbell spoke to the media Wednesday morning, and unfortunately didn’t threaten to bite any kneecaps. But he did promise that he, the players, and the staff are ready to work hard once again as the franchise prepares to mount its 95th season.
Dan Campbell feels he’s a better head coach entering this season because of “more experience.” He says the team can build off last year’s success but won’t lose their identity. “We don’t live off reputation, we live off of work,” he said.

Brandon Aiyuk reporting to 49ers camp was inevitable
Despite his trade request, Brandon Aiyuk reporting to 49ers camp was inevitable. He has zero leverage in this situation so holding out would have accomplished nothing while simultaneously hurting his paycheck and his overall value. GM John Lynch essentially confirmed the Niners have no plans to trade Aiyuk, telling the media on Tuesday they “fully intend on Brandon being a Niner,” calling him “an integral part of the team.”
