Noel Fielding has dropped out of his comedy series, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, due to health issues.

The Great British Bake Off star, 51, played the lead role of the legendary highwayman in the first series of the Apple TV Plus show last year.

Fielding did not return to filming after the Christmas break, forcing the second series to be scrapped mid-way through production, according to The Times.

His spokesperson said: “This is a private and confidential matter regarding our client’s health. We are saddened by the decision to cease production but we cannot make any further comment on this matter.”

Fielding’s colleagues are said to be “concerned” about the Mighty Boosh star after his abrupt disappearance from the show.

“Noel has said that he can’t film anymore and so there was no choice but to stop,” a source told The Times.

The insider added: “It’s not a decision that was taken lightly and they wouldn’t have got to this extreme result if every possible solution hadn’t been exhausted.

“People have been very concerned about Noel’s wellbeing and given him time to recover but there are also significant repercussions. Some people are furious.”

More than 100 cast and crew members are reportedly considering a class action lawsuit against the makers of the show over its sudden cancellation, The Sun reported.

Fielding is also a co-writer and executive producer of the show and will likely be sued too, according to the outlet.

The comedian reportedly left for France before the team learned that the show had been axed.

“Axing a show halfway through production is virtually unheard of – plus there’s a mystery over just what has happened,” a source said.

“It’s left bosses of other shows he is on feeling extremely nervous. Plus he’ll have to contend with any legal action. It will be a difficult few months for him.”

The Standard has contacted representatives for Fielding and Apple TV for comment.

Fielding played Dick Turpin in the historical comedy show, going on a journey of “wildly absurd escapades” in the first season after being made the “reluctant leader of a band of outlaws”.

It was announced in July that the show had been renewed for a second series. Filming is understood to have been begun late last year.

Fielding became a household name after being announced as a host of The Great British Bake Off in 2017.

In 2021, he sparked concern after disappearing halfway through an episode of the baking competition with a mystery illness.

Co-host Matt Lucas told viewers, “Okay Bakers, Noel is feeling a little under the weather, but we’re going to carry on,”as he resumed hosting duties on his own for the last 10 minutes of the show.
