Noncitizen arrested for shoplifting at Pennsylvania Target, bail denied

STAE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — A noncitizen of the United States was arrested in State College after being accused of shoplifting at Target.

Izabel Nicolae, 19, was arrested Dec. 23 and bail was denied citing she had no address and was not a citizen of the United States, court documents show.

Patton Township police said they were called around 3:24 p.m. Monday by Target’s loss prevention about a woman, later identified as Nicolae, putting items in a cart and walking out the front doors without paying, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said they spotted Nicolae in the Michael’s parking lot and stopped her. According to the complaint she was identified and claimed she was Christmas shopping for her sister. Police added that Target loss prevention was able to identify her as the same person who left with the cart of merchandise.

The items in the cart totaled $249.19, the complaint reads.

Police noted she told them she was a transient and was just passing through the area.

She was charged with retail theft and placed in Centre County Prison with bail denied.
