The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating a 24-year-old woman who went missing Monday near Nevada City.
Esmeralda Marie Pineda was last seen at a mining claim camp near the middle fork of the Yuba River and Sweetland Creek, five miles northwest of Nevada City, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
At the time, she was reportedly wearing a black sweatshirt, leggings with a floral design, tennis shoes and had a black Swiss backpack, sheriff’s officials said.
“She is from Sacramento and may be trying to return to the region,” said Ashley Quadros, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.
Pineda is 5-foot-8 and 169 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. She is considered an at-risk individual, according to the news release.
The Sheriff’s Office and its search and rescue team were actively looking for her. Anyone with information about Pineda’s location or how to find her is asked to call the sheriff’s Regional Dispatch Center at 530-265-7880.
