Officials investigate after Nelson County Sheriff’s deputy shoots resident in Coxs Creek

A Nelson County Sheriff’s deputy shot a resident Wednesday during a welfare check, officials said in a statement on social media.

Deputies were visiting a Coxs Creek residence — roughly 40 minutes south of downtown Louisville — around 12:15 p.m. Christmas Day for the check when the confrontation erupted. The suspect “brandished a handgun and shots were fired,” officials said, though it’s unclear who shot first.

The suspect was shot and received first-aid treatment on scene, officials said.
