Ohio man arrested, accused of fatally shooting dog with pellet gun

An Ohio man accused of fatally shooting a dog with a pellet gun was arrested over the weekend.

54-year-old Scott McCall was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with cruelty to companion animals, a fifth-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, our news partners at WBNS reported.

According to a release from the Athens County prosecutor’s office, McCall is accused of shooting a dog with a pellet gun, causing its death.

He is also accused of tying items to the animal and putting the dog’s body in a pond in an attempt to conceal the death.

During his arraignment on Monday, the court ordered that McCall be released on his own recognizance with standard conditions.

As a result, he will not be allowed to have animals under his care or control.

The case was investigated by the Nelsonville Police Department and the Athens County Human Society.

He is due back in court on Jan. 16.
