Ohio man arrested after shooting at Indiana police officers

An Ohio man was arrested after he shot at an Indiana police officer Saturday night.

Around 11:00 p.m. Saturday, officers from the Union City Police Department responded to the 1100 block of W. State Road 28 in Union City, Indiana on reports of gunfire in the area.

Upon arrival, officers located a woman who said she heard several gunshots and screaming from across the road near the bridge of the Little Mississinawa River an hour prior.

She contacted police again when she heard more shots and screaming around 11:00 p.m.

An officer approached the bridge and announced their presence before being met with gunfire from an unidentified male.

According to a release, multiple rounds were fired at the office, with bullets “passing dangerously close.”

The officer did not return fire and was unable to immediately locate the suspect who had fired.

Later, a suspect identified as 45-year-old Michael Fisher of Union City, Ohio was located.

He reportedly had a 9mm handgun with an empty magazine and a locked-back slide.

Officers also located a vehicle in the river, which contained multiple firearms, including a long rifle, ammunition, and two dogs that belonged to the suspect.

During the shooting, a nearby house was struck by the gunfire. A bullet consistent with a 9mm round, penetrated the exterior wall of the home and was found in the bedroom.

Fisher initially claimed he had been shot multiple times but officers determined he was uninjured.

He was taken into custody without further incident and was charged with the following offenses:

  • Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony

  • Pointing a Firearm – Level 6 Felony

  • Criminal Recklessness – Level 6 Felony

  • Attempted Murder – Level 1 Felony

  • Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun – Felony (prior conviction with a sentence exceeding 12 months)

  • Criminal Mischief – Level 6 Felony

The case remains under review.
