Olmsted County deputies find body in ‘burnt-up car’ registered to missing person

Jan. 3—BYRON, Minn. — A body was found in a “burnt-up” vehicle on New Year’s Eve, the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Jan. 3.

Deputies found a car with significant fire damage and a deceased person in the driver’s seat on Dec. 31, 2024, near the 8000 block of Country Club Road West, the release. The car was registered to Uong Ong, a person reported missing by the Rochester Police Department on Dec. 3, 2024.

According to the release, the damaged car appeared to have been in the area for some time.

An autopsy was performed, and the person’s identification is pending.

OCSO investigators, the Rochester Police Department, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Southeast Regional Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the incident.

“The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is working in cooperation with the Rochester Police Department throughout the investigation. As this case is ongoing, no further information can be released,” the release said. “Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office extends sincere condolences to the friends and family of the deceased person.”
