What did you miss?
Only Connect viewers were shocked as host Victoria Coren Mitchell closed the latest instalment of her show with a cheeky joke.
The presenter is known for her witty comments on the BBC Two quiz show, which sees teams attempting to connect different things. But several thought her latest joke, which referred to former politician Michael Portillo, was a little bit close to the mark.
Some people posted messages on X suggesting that her quip was “near the knuckle” and went “too far”. However, others were amused.
What, how and why?
Coren Mitchell often opens and closes the programme with a quip or a little anecdote and as she wrapped up the latest show on Monday, 16 December she told viewers: “Coming up next on BBC Two is another episode in that wonderful series sponsored by the RSPB where celebrities look after birds before handing them on to other celebrities to raise awareness of struggling avian numbers.”
The star, whose show was followed in the schedule by University Challenge, went on: “I have so enjoyed watching the big names of BBC Two passing their feathered dependence onto other presenters that I have decided to join in myself and tonight I will be eagerly taking several swallows from Michael Portillo.”

“Full on choked at the closing comment on this evenings episode of Only Connect,” admitted one viewer, adding: “Did not expect that.”
However, others were tickled.

The instalment of the quiz show saw teams named Uisge Beathas and Crunchers battling it out, with Crunchers ending up winning and remaining in the running in the series.
