Pair face gun charges in reported weather-related disputes in Erie involving weapons

Two men are facing weapons and other charges after Erie police accused them of threatening others with guns during weather-related incidents on Monday.

A 51-year-old man is facing charges of person not to possess a firearm, possessing an instrument of crime, terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct in an incident that police said happened on Monday at about 11:55 a.m. in the 600 block of West Fifth Street.

According to police, some residents of the block were clearing snow from a parking spot when the suspect pulled his vehicle into the cleared spot. When the people who cleared the spot told the man it wasn’t right for him to park in the spot they cleared, the man reportedly went to his residence, returned with a gun and started waving it around while warning people not to touch his vehicle, Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said Tuesday morning.

Another man is facing charges of carrying a firearm without a license, possessing an instrument of crime, simple assault and criminal trespass in an incident police said happened shortly before 3 p.m. Monday in the 800 block of Buffalo Road.

Lorah said the suspect reportedly got into an argument with a tow truck driver and pulled a gun from his waistband before fleeing into a residence. Police later found the man hiding in a closet in the residence and recovered a pistol, he said.
