A 46-year-old pedestrian was killed Saturday night in Oxnard after a vehicle reportedly struck him on purpose and fled, police reported.
The incident is the sixth homicide in the city this year, according to a news release from the Oxnard Police Department.
Calls came into the department around 11:40 p.m. from individuals who said the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in a parking lot in the 100 block of Magnolia Avenue, police said. The address is located north of the Oxnard public library in the downtown area.
Officers found the man unresponsive in the parking lot, according to the news release. He received emergency aid before being transported to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, where he was pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim as Raul Silva of Oxnard.
The vehicle that struck the man reportedly fled the scene before police arrived. Officers said they learned there was some type of argument between the occupants of the vehicle and Silva before he was struck.
The department’s major crimes unit is conducting the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are encouraging anyone who has any information or may have heard or seen anything related to the incident to contact Detective Ricardo Vega at 805-385-7688 or via email at ricardo.vega@oxnardpd.org.
