Pedestrian killed on South Saunders Street in Raleigh

A pedestrian died Tuesday morning after getting hit by a car on South Saunders Street at Pecan Road.

Police closed the northbound lanes after the 9 a.m. incident, according to the Raleigh Police Department, according to ABC11 The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner.

The News & Observer has contacted police for more information.

It was the second fatal collision involving a pedestrian in the Triangle in 12 hours.

In Durham, a 73-year-old man died at the scene after he tried to cross U.S. 15-501 and was hit by a car Monday night.

It happened around 9 p.m. when police say Lester Arthur Battle of Durham stepped over a guardrail into the path of a Honda Civic near Moorreene Road.

No charges are expected against the driver in that incident.
