Pet enthusiast shares one dog breed that’s ‘so chaotic’ it should ‘come with a warning’

A pet enthusiast has warned one popular dog breed is so ‘chaotic’ it should come with a warning.

Choosing the perfect canine companion is no easy feat. From ‘drama queen’ huskies to lovable labradoodles and tiny chihuahuas to larger breeds like German Shepherds, each breed has its pros and cons.

However, those considering getting a Bernese Mountain Dog might want to think twice, if one Instagrammer is to be believed. Taking to the social network, @doglifetoday1 introduced the dogs as “a breed so clumsy and chaotic they should come with a warning label.”

The video continued: “These lovable giants roam the earth like overgrown toddlers,” before outlining a few issues the dogs can cause. “First off, let’s talk about their sheer size. They’re like an express train made of fur, lumbering through life with the grace of a hippo on roller skates.”

Male Bernese Mountain dogs can grow up to 27.5 inches (70cm) at the shoulder, while females can reach 26 inches (66cm), according to the American Kennel Club. They can weigh up to 8.2 stone (52kg).

The video went on to say the dogs had an impressive lust for life, “rivalled only by a toddler with a sugar rush.”

“Let’s not even mention the breath,” the video added. “Oh dear heavens.” The Instagram account also warned potential pet owners that Bernese Mountain Dogs would require a lot of clean-up thanks to their constant shedding. “They don’t just shed, they […] disperse fur like a confetti cannon at a bad wedding.”

While the video claimed the breed also has the brain power of a “bag of rocks”, Bernese Mountain dogs are considered very intelligent and are easy to train if you know how. However, because of their intelligence, they need a lot of mental stimulation or can get bored and act out.

They are also prone to getting their feelings hurt, so respond better to positive reinforcement than negative. While the dogs certainly have their positive features, people were quick to agree.

One commenter added: “Absolutely, but my Bernese is absolutely the loveliest family member. Honestly, Bernese are so incredibly loyal, sweet, caring…”

Others pointed out the breed came with a very different issue potential owners should be aware of. “Adorable but will break your heart,” one said. “[They] die younger and get weirder stuff wrong with them than any other breed I know,” another said. Bernese Mountain dogs typically live for seven to 10 years, much shorter than the average lifestyle across all dog breeds of 10-13 years.

They are also very playful and have plenty of energy, and they are known for being goofy dogs, meaning having one around can be a challenge. However, they are generally friendly towards strangers and other dogs and are known for being fiercely loyal to their family.
