Phoenix police investigating death of 3-month-old baby

Phoenix police detectives are investigating the death of a 3-month-old baby girl who was found unresponsive in her mother’s bed.

According to Phoenix police, their officers responded to an “injured person call” at an apartment complex near 67th Avenue and Obsorn Road at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Fire crews were dispatched to the apartment complex in response to a “baby not breathing call,” according to Phoenix police, and had already taken the baby to the hospital.

The baby, identified as Deara Harris, died at the hospital, according to Phoenix police.

In a written statement, Phoenix police Sergeant Phil Krynsky said, “Preliminary information suggests Deara was accidentally suffocated sometime overnight while sleeping with her mother.”

The case remains active as investigators await the findings of the post-mortem exam.
