Pingree Transload now operational, ready to support ND farmers

Dec. 23—PINGREE, N.D. — A state-of-the-art grain processing, handling and transportation facility near Pingree is now operational, Peterson Farms Seed announced on Monday, Dec. 23.

Pingree Transload LLC addresses a critical need for cost-effective rail shipping for niche grain products, said Carl Peterson, president of Peterson Farms Seed, in a news release. He said the facility offers regional growers an opportunity to secure higher premiums for their crops and will serve as a critical hub for identity-preserved (IP) grain projects, helping meet the increasing demand for specialty crops with specific characteristics for specialty-use buyers.

“It’s always been Peterson Farms Seed’s mission to bring new opportunities to farmers in our region,” Peterson said. “We are thrilled to bring a new closed-loop opportunity for IP and value-added crops to North Dakota growers.”

Pingree Transload is located 1 mile north of Pingree along the Red River Valley & Western Railroad tracks. Pingree Transload is on 63 acres of land, ensuring the facility is strategically positioned for future growth, Peterson said.

Peterson Farms Seed and Pingree Transload are affiliated under the same ownership team but are separate legal entities, said Dave Nilles, marketing content and communications specialist for Peterson Farms Seed.

In conjunction with Peterson Farms Seed, Pingree Transload offers a robust range of services to meet the needs of farmers and grain buyers, including variety testing and seed increases, grower contracting and in-season crop management, product cleaning, product storage and logistics solutions for truck-to-rail and rail-to-truck shipments, Peterson said.

The facility has state-of-the-art equipment that allows for a cleaning capacity of 1,500 bushels per hour. The facility has a 110-foot scale with a pneumatic sampler for accurate weighing, six 52,000-bushel hopper bins for storage and an unloading capacity of 15,000 bushels per hour for both rail and truck. In turn, the facility has a bulk loading capacity of 20,000 bushels per hour.

A rail siding at the facility can hold up to 25 rail cars.

Pingree Transload builds on Peterson Farms Seed’s expertise in managing identity-preserved crops, Peterson said. Since 1996, the company has worked with North Dakota farmers on IP contracts.

With the new facility, these projects can scale significantly, enhancing market opportunities and profitability for growers, Peterson said.

He said the facility is expected to deliver substantial grower premiums, underscoring its value to farmers and its role in diversifying regional agricultural opportunities.
