Police arrest S.F. man after flat-tire chase

Jul. 22—A Santa Fe man suspected of driving a stolen vehicle was arrested Sunday after attempting a getaway with a flat tire, state police said in a news release.

Geronimo Johnny Vigil, 37, faces charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, receiving or transferring stolen motor vehicles, aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, concealing identity, failure to obey traffic signals and driving on a suspended license, according to a criminal complaint filed Sunday in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

Police said in the release an officer was on Hopewell Street waiting for a tow truck to seize an unoccupied car that had been reported stolen.

The officer noticed Vigil driving an SUV with a flat tire and learned the vehicle Vigil was driving was reported stolen, police wrote.

The officer chased Vigil to the intersection of Llano Street and St. Michael’s Drive and rammed the suspect’s car in what police call a “pursuit intervention technique,” according to the news release. The officer arrested Vigil after chasing him on foot.
