Preparing for Hurricane Beryl

Preparing for Hurricane Beryl

Jul. 7—Entergy Texas has announced the monitoring Hurricane Beryl and is preparing restoration efforts for customers who may be impacted by the storm.

“We are also ready to offer support to our neighboring Texas investor-owned utilities. At this time, Entergy Texas has not received a mutual assistance request,” said Senior Communications Specialist Debbie Bridgeman.

Bridgeman said Entergy Texas has taken a proactive approach to the storm by identifying travel teams of both internal and contract resources prior to the long holiday weekend. These resources will begin to mobilize as soon as a formal request is made.

“Entergy Texas is prepared to respond and remains committed to helping our customers and neighbors,” Bridgeman said.

The Trinity River Authority is also closely monitoring the projected path of Tropical Storm Beryl in cooperation with the National Weather Service.

Initial mitigation efforts at Lake Livingston Dam will be complete by Monday afternoon, July 8, prior to rainfall associated with the storm. The dam will be able to pass high-flow events without impacting the integrity of the dam.

According to ABC-13 Meteorologist Kevin Roth, Beryl will be a high impact storm in Southeast Texas, making landfall early Monday morning near Matagorda Bay. This is a snapshot of how the storm could look Monday morning.

There are four main threats to consider with Beryl:

1. Winds — Hurricane force winds around Matagorda Bay, Tropical Storm force winds inland to Houston and beyond.

2. Flooding Rains — 5 to 10 inches of rain will be common in the path of this storm, some locations could see 15+ inches of rain.

3. Storm Surge — 4 to 6 feet of surge along our coast. 5 feet peak for most of Galveston Bay.

4. Tropical Tornadoes — Tornadoes are possible in the outer bands of Beryl, starting this afternoon and continuing through Monday.
