PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — City leaders held a ribbon cutting Monday afternoon to celebrate the latest renovations at India Point Park in Providence.
The $2.2 million investment was shaped by five years of community input, according to Deputy Press Secretary Samara Pinto.
The recent upgrades include new seating, lighting and landscaping along the park’s waterfront. Crews also resurfaced pathways, expanded and upgraded the playground and removed the fence that previously enclosed it.
“As we continue to invest in Providence’s parks and open spaces, we’re prioritizing projects that will improve access and usability while helping our city adapt to the impacts of climate change,” Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said. “These improvements at India Point Park are part of a larger vision to create a resilient, world-class waterfront that serves our residents today and protects our shoreline for generations to come.”
Pinto said the renovations reflect the city’s commitment to building “a world-class, climate-adaptive waterfront” and lay the groundwork for future shoreline enhancements.
“Beautiful public spaces are part of what make Providence such an incredible place to live and work,” Councilman John Goncalves added.
A feasibility study is currently underway to guide a third phase focused on shoreline resiliency, according to Pinto.
