Queen Camilla commanded attention in a regal ensemble for the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday in London. The queen consort joined her husband, King Charles III, who read the King’s Speech from the The Sovereign’s Throne in the House of Lords chamber. The speech outlined the new Labour government’s policies and proposed legislation for the upcoming parliamentary session.
For the historic occasion and royal appearance, Queen Camilla favored one of her longtime go-to designers. The queen consort wore a white long-sleeve gown by Fiona Clare for the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday. The dress featured slightly exaggerated shoulders and ornate embroidered detailing on the hemline.

Along with the white gown, Queen Camilla fashioned a pair of silver leather pumps courtesy of Eliot Zed, a brand the queen consort has worn in the past. As for her jewelry, Queen Camilla opted for a glittering diamond necklace, coordinated earrings and an historic crown from the late Queen Elizabeth II’s collection.
Queen Camilla wore the George IV Diadem crown for the State Opening of Parliament, a significant piece Queen Elizabeth II previously wore for the same occasion during her reign. The crown dates to 1820 during King George IV’s reign and is made of silver, gold, diamonds and pearls.
The George IV Diadem passed on from every queen following King George IV’s short reign. Queen Elizabeth II wore the crown in the 1950s and would often wear the historic piece for the opening of Parliament — just as Queen Camilla did on Wednesday.
During her time as queen consort, Queen Camilla has found ways to honor and recall the memory of Queen Elizabeth II through her sartorial statements, most notably by way of her jewelry selections.
For such an occasion as the State Opening of Parliament, Queen Camilla’s crown selection not only held historic significance, it also recalled Queen Elizabeth II’s memory and provided symbolic continuity. With such a notable piece in her possession, choosing the George IV Diadem was the ideal selection for Wednesday’s royal engagement and official state appointment.
