Rapha International CEO honored at U.N. with Human Rights Hero Award

JOPLIN, Mo. — The leader of a Joplin non-profit group is being honored by the U.N.

Rapha International CEO Stephanie Freed took part in the International Human Rights Summit at the United Nations last week. During the gathering, she was recognized with the 2024 Human Rights Hero Award, one of just three given out this year.

Freed says the honor highlights not just her work but the accomplishments of the entire staff.

“There’s just this room full of international human rights activists from all over the world. And so to be a recipient of that award is just incredibly humbling and just an honor to do that,” said Freed.

Rapha International has been based in Joplin for more than 20 years and works to end the trafficking and sexual abuse of children around the world.
