Motorists on Interstate Highway 44 in north Wichita Falls should expect some backed-up traffic as road crews do major repairs over the next few days, officials said.
The Texas Department of Transportation said two lanes will be closed starting Tuesday as concrete repairs begin on two miles of the northbound interstate between Old Iowa Park Road and the Spur 325 interchange.
“Unlike potholes on asphalt hot-mix roads, concrete failures have to be cut out of the lane with a concrete saw. Then crews will pour a new slab over the repair,” TxDOT said in a news release.
The concrete can take 24 to 48 hours to cure. As a result, drivers can expect backups.
“Residents are encouraged to find an alternative route to avoid traffic at peak times,” the release said.
