Roy Keane questioned the positioning of Manchester United duo Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot in Liverpool’s opening goal at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
After seeing what they thought was an early opener disallowed for offside, Liverpool broke the deadlock with 35 minutes on the clock. A misplaced pass from Casemiro was intercepted by Ryan Gravenberch, he advanced, slipped in Mohamed Salah and the forward delivered a peach of a cross for Luis Diaz to nod home.
The goal came from Casemiro’s decision to play a first-time pass, intended to find Kobbie Mainoo, and the Brazilian was soon at fault again for Liverpool’s second, which was also netted by Diaz after being created by Salah.

But while Keane recognised that Casemiro’s pass led to Liverpool scoring the game’s opening goal, he was furious with the lack of defensive cover in the wide areas. Both Mazraoui and Dalot had ventured into attacking positions, as it looked as though Casemiro’s pass was going to progress United up the pitch.
Keane, speaking at half-time, told Sky Sports: “The mistake from Casemiro here… for all his experience, that is not a first-time pass. That is not worth the risk.
“When they lose it (the ball), they are all over the place. Listen, a player can make a mistake, but they are all all over the place.
“Look at your right-back, where is your right-back? Where is your left-back? You are not in control.
“Liverpool are good enough to punish [them]. Good players will punish you.”
