Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed on Saturday the escalating situation in Syria with his counterparts from Iran and Turkey, according to the Russian state-run news agency TASS.
According to the statement, “the ministers agreed with the need to make more active joint efforts aimed at stabilizing the situation in Syria.”
The Foreign Ministry added that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria would be “resolutely supported.”

After Moscow’s military intervention in the Syrian civil war in 2015, trilateral talks began between Russia, Iran and Turkey, which led to the development of the Astana process – named after the first meeting in the capital of Kazakhstan.
Moscow and Tehran support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, while Ankara supports parts of the opposition. In recent years, the troika has moved from military to political issues in Syria.
