Sandridge Golf Club getting new $11.2 million clubhouse with restaurant and banquet hall

Sandridge Golf Club getting new .2 million clubhouse with restaurant and banquet hall

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Sandridge Golf Club, the county’s 36-hole public course, is getting a new, $11.2 million clubhouse.

More than a year after rejecting three bids to build a new clubhouse, the County Commission April 8 unanimously awarded the bid to Quest Contracting, of West Palm Beach.

The current clubhouse was built in 1992. But now the course hosts more events and has outgrown that original building.

“The course has enjoyed a lot of success, but the one glaring deficiency is its amenities,” said Deputy County Administrator Mike Zito, told commissioners. “We have been endeavoring to build the project for a number of years now, but prior bids were far too expensive.”

What’s new?

“Our current clubhouse was not built for what we need now,” said Sandridge Golf Club Director Bela Nagy. “It basically has just a snack bar, and when there is an event with over 100 people, they filter between inside and outside.”

The new building is to comprise a 1,500 square-foot pro shop, with storage space, since there is currently no stock room and the three offices are used for shop storage; 80-guest restaurant with full-bar, 200-person banquet hall with reception area and a catering kitchen and meeting and office space.

The club currently hosts more than 43 tournaments per year, including the American Junior Golf Association, South Florida PGA, Minor League Tour, Division 1 Women’s College and men, women and couples 9- and 18-hole leagues.

It was Golfers’ Choice No. 10 best public course in Florida and an Audubon cooperative sanctuary. During 2023-2024, 129,000 rounds were played.

Sandridge has increased its revenue every year since 2019, and last year brought in more than $5 million.

“The club is self-sufficient,” said Nagy. “It just needs the new facilities to be brought up to where it should be.”

What changed?

When the need for a new clubhouse was identified, the county had budgeted $5 million for the project. However, after receiving two bids in 2024 hovering around $15 million, Zito and Nagy got creative.

“We thought although the course could support a $15 million clubhouse, it was too expensive for a public course,” explained Zito. “So after a year, we had a unique idea.”

To save money, the course would use reclaimed water from local sources for its fire-suppression system.

“We sharpened our pencils to get this done,” said Zito. “We look forward to this being a clubhouse we will be proud of.”
