Santa Fe events canceled Sunday after officer-involved shooting

Sep. 8—No one was reported injured after a shooting involving a Santa Fe police officer at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Santa Fe Police Deputy Chief Ben Valdez said in an email that the officers and unidentified suspect are OK.

A New Mexico State Police social media post states the shooting involved the Santa Fe Police Department and Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

Valdez said Desfile de La Gente and all of Sunday’s Santa Fe Plaza events have been cancelled. The Plaza will be also be closed along with Washington Avenue from Marcy Street to Palace Avenue and Palace Avenue from Washington Street to Paseo de Peralta. There may be additional road closures.

“We are asking our community to avoid the Plaza area as New Mexico State Police responds and conducts their investigation in to the OIS,” he said.

Additional updates will be provided as needed, Valdez said.
