Shame on Sen. Bernie Moreno's staffer for baseless accusation | Letters

I quote the following from the recent Columbus Dispatch article, "Frustrated by Trump and Musk, central Ohio protesters push for senators' attention" (March 26) about the “town hall” gathering hosted by Indivisible Central Ohio at the Valley Dale Ballroom on Sunbury Road in Columbus. The Dispatch said:

“A spokesperson for Moreno accused Indivisible Central Ohio protesters of being funded by dark money."

If that accusation is true, then shame on Indivisible and I will have nothing more to do with them.

But this accusation seems like it's coming directly from President Donald Trump’s playbook — accusing others of doing what Trump does so well and often. I know folks in Indivisible, and they are passionate about freedom and true democracy. They are patriotic citizens. So, shame on Sen. Bernie Moreno’s staffer for this baseless accusation!

I enjoyed the seasonal article “Best Blooms” (March 24) by Amani Bayo but couldn’t help but notice a glaring omission — Inniswood Metro Park & Botanical Gardens — a hidden gem in Westerville free and open every day of the year! With over 100 acres from Rock Garden to Pollinator Garden, Conifer Garden to Spruce Forest, walkable trails and a boardwalk, Children’s Garden and more, Inniswood is the real deal.

Right now, the magnolia trees, daffodils and hellebores are putting on an amazing show of blooms; hundreds of dedicated volunteers help staff plant 10,000 tulip bulbs every fall, and they will be putting on their dazzling performance any minute now! So much is blooming — “World Children’s Garden Day” is April 27, and the Volunteer Spring Plant Sale is May 3 and 4.

Inniswood also offers year-round educational programming for children and adults, summer outdoor concerts and so much more. High schoolers have discovered this ideal setting for their senior photos and prom-goers will soon be back in all their finery for amazing photo backdrops. Google Inniswood and be amazed!

Let me get this straight. In order to give huge tax cuts to the wealthy and smaller ones to others, President Donald Trump is cutting jobs and life-saving services to the most vulnerable among us. Food banks across the United States are seeing $l billion of federal government cuts. What does this say about our country?

Please, please stop listening to what Trump says and pay attention to what he does. If he hurts the most vulnerable of our families, he hurts all of us.

Please continue to fund NPR and PBS. They are excellent sources of fair, mainstream media without partisan bias. They reach nearly 99% of the U.S. population providing high-quality, free programming, which includes access to the National Emergency Broadcast system.

Public broadcasting is listened to by nearly 42 million people with a cost of only $1.60 per person, approximately 0.01% of the entire national budget. NPR and PBS provide the country with free and accessible programs regardless of population density, income or geographic challenges. Every $1 of federal funding contributing to that programming generates $8 from local sources — a strong return on the nation’s investment.

These news organizations belong to the people and need to be supported through public funding.
