Shamima Begum and British ISIS members should be allowed back in UK, says Trump terror chief

Donald Trump’s soon-to-be counter-terrorism chief has said that the UK should repatriate British members of the so-called Islamic State kept in Syrian prison camps if they hope to maintain a “serious ally” status with the US.

Sebastian Gorka, during an interview with The Times, said actions should reflect commitment to the international battle against extremism and stated: “Any nation which wishes to be seen to be a serious ally and friend of the most powerful nation in the world should act in a fashion that reflects that serious commitment.

“That is doubly so for the UK which has a very special place in President Trump’s heart and we would all wish to see the ‘special relationship’ fully re-established.”

His comments come as up to 70 individuals from Britain including Shamima Begum—who recently lost her appeal against the revocation of her UK citizenship—are reported to be detained in such camps, indicating a potential shift toward a more stringent stance on allied nations by the forthcoming Trump administration.

In light of Mr Trump’s threats to impose global tariffs on imports—a move experts have warned could harm international economies—a Government spokesperson has come forward to say: “Our priority remains to ensure the safety and security of the UK. We will continue to do whatever is necessary to protect the UK from those who pose a threat to our security.”
