The door is open for veteran edge rusher Shaq Barrett to play before the 2024 season is over.
The Dolphins waived Barrett off of the reserve/retired list on Thursday and he would not be eligible to play if claimed because he was on the retired list. The NFL’s transaction report for Friday shows that he was not claimed, however, and that means he can sign with any team and play before the year is out.
Barrett’s past production likely makes that a real possibility for a team looking to bolster their pass rush for the postseason. Barrett has 59 career sacks in 131 career games with the Broncos and Buccaneers.
Barrett signed with the Dolphins as a free agent this offseason, but he retired over the summer and never appeared in a game with the team.
