Shenandoah man waives hearing on child sexual abuse material charges

A 35-year-old Shenandoah man charged with possession of child sexual abuse material waived all charges for court.

Gregory Lee Yoder, who has been jailed in Schuylkill County Prison since Nov. 7, was due to appear at noon Thursday for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.

Yoder was charged by the state attorney general’s office Nov. 7 after he was found to be in possession of numerous files showing CSAM.

He faces 50 felony counts of CSAM, two felony counts of endangering welfare of children and a felony count of criminal use of a communications facility; and misdemeanor counts of drug paraphernalia and intentional possession of a controlled substance.

By waiving his right to the hearing, Yoder will have to answer to the charges in county court, where he can plead guilty or enter a not guilty plea and request a trial.

Yoder is represented by Public Defender Kent D. Watkins.

According to Caitlin Smith, a special agent with the office’s child predator section, a CyberTip was provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The CyberTip contained several files reported by Google, including videos and images of minors engaged in sexual acts, according to Smith.

Police identified Yoder as the person who viewed and uploaded the materials and executed a search warrant at his home.

Yoder told police he had viewed and saved CSAM over the past two years. He described himself as a “collector” who would transfer the files to multiple devices — in his case, a laptop, a hard drive and a thumb drive.

Police said they found at least 50 such files on the thumb drive and Yoder’s Google account.

During the interview, Yoder said he shares a bedroom with his 6- and 9-year-old children. Police found a substance in the bedroom that later tested positive for fentanyl, along with glass pipes filled with residue of a suspected controlled substance, police said.
