Shooting death questions remain

Investigation into a Saturday shooting death remains ongoing, Johnson County Sheriff Adam King said Tuesday, but he added that more information is needed before the investigation can move forward.

“We’ve pretty much done all we can do to this point,” King said. “So now we’re waiting on the autopsy report to come back. We’re hoping that will help us determine if this was an accidental shooting, it could have been from a stray bullet, or if it could have been an intentional shooting.

JCSO deputies responded to reports of a shooting at 9:06 a.m. Saturday in the 7300 block of Sky Road in Godley. Deputies, upon arrival, found a deceased man, the victim of a single bullet wound to the head.

“We’re hoping the autopsy can give us some indication on the distance between the victim and the gunshot, which should give us some clues on where we need to go with the investigation from this point,” King said.

The victim has been identified as Jose Sierra Gonzalez, 31, of Godley.

“There’s nothing to indicate this was a suicide,” King said. “It’s either going to be a murder or an accidental shooting. We’re hoping we’ll get some information back from the coroner today that will help point us in the right direction.”

JCSO detectives and members of the Texas Rangers have partnered to work the case. Given that the matter remains under investigation, King said no additional information regarding the case is being released at this time.
