(KRON) – San Jose Man Mitchell Bedolla Garcia, 45, is facing felony grand theft charges for stealing nearly $1,000 worth of copper from a Moraga supply store on September 3, the Santa Clara County District Attorney announced.
The theft happened at Outdoor Supply Hardware on the 1500 block of Moraga’s Canyon Road.
According to the DA’s office, Garcia allegedly stole $1,295 worth of copper wiring by loading the wire rolls into an empty store vacuum box.
After loading the “Shop-Vac” branded box with the wire rolls, Garcia would seal the box with tape “to make it look unopened” and pay $110 for the vacuum before leaving the store, the DA’s office said.
Two days after the alleged theft, Garcia returned to Outdoor Supply Hardware on Thursday. The DA’s office said Garcia came in, claiming he had some items “he wanted to return.”
The DA’s office said the OSH store manager recognized Garcia from security footage and soon after called Moraga police.
Garcia was arrested and found to have outstanding warrants in other counties. He’s currently booked at the Martinez Detention Facility without bail, “awaiting arraignment on the charges,” per the DA’s office.
