Nov. 26—A Fort Liberty soldier was killed Saturday when his vehicle collided head-on with a tractor-trailer truck on N.C. 87 in Harnett County, according to the state Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at 2:44 p.m. just north of the Olivia Road intersection and just south of the Benhaven Fire Department.
The soldier, Miguel Estrada Jr., 23, of El Paso, Texas, driving a 2017 Hyundai, was traveling south when the car crossed the center line and collided with a 2021 Peterbilt 18-wheeler operated by Justin Matthew Ramos, 33, of Florida, according to Trooper L.J. Carson’s report.

Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene. Ramos was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, the report said.
It’s not known why Estrada’s car crossed the center line, and it was unknown on Monday whether alcohol was involved.
The truck was carrying a load of frozen pork, and officials had to notify the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which is protocol.
