According to a statement from Mitch McCoy, SLMPD’s Director of Public Affairs and Information, officers intervened and aimed to de-escalate the situation with verbal commands and strategic positioning. At some point, an “officer in need of aid” call was announced due to the crowd size.
Several juveniles were detained for questioning and later released to their parents or guardians. One juvenile was taken into custody for reportedly using pepper spray on an officer.
No serious injuries were reported from the fight or officers’ response.
