Sarah Storey beat French hope Heidi Gaugain in the road cycling time trial to win her 18th Paralympic gold medal.
The 46-year-old trailed Gaugain by more than seven seconds after 5.8km of the 14.1km course, but she stormed back in the final section to retain the title she has won at every Paralympics since 2008.
Storey, who is solely competing in road events at Paris 2024, is taking part in her ninth Games – the most ever for a British athlete.
She will look to add a 19th gold – the most by any currently active Paralympian – in the road race on Friday.
Storey won the race in a time of 20:22.15, 4.69 seconds ahead of Gaugain – 27 years her junior – who took silver. Alana Forster of Australia won bronze.
